Purdue United Way Campaign entering final stretch

October 26, 2012

Purdue's 2012 United Way campaign is making strides to reach its $745,000 goal, but more help is needed.

"Nothing feels better than giving someone a hand up," says Maryann Santos de Barona, 2012 Purdue United Way chair and dean of the College of Education. "That's what all of the contributors to the Purdue United Way Campaign have done, and we are humbled and appreciative."

As of Oct. 25 the campaign had reached 88 percent of its goal, or $655,233. That is 3 percentage points less than the campaign's progress last year at the same time.

"As we have not yet reached our goal, we ask that you consider joining us, if you have not already done so, in Building Extraordinary Futures," Santos de Barona says. "Together we can make this happen."

A video for the local campaign is available at www.purdue.edu/unitedway.

Faculty and staff can continue to contribute to Purdue's campaign by indicating an amount on a pledge card and choosing among several methods -- payroll deduction, one-time direct donation, or quarterly, monthly or one-time billing. Purdue employees and retiree donations may be designated to one or more of the 23 agencies in the United Way of Greater Lafayette, or for United Way in a surrounding county.

Returned pledge cards are kept confidential, and team captains do not know the amount indicated. Cards should be returned to the team captain or sent via campus mail to Dauch Alumni Center (DAUC) by Nov. 9.

All faculty and staff who have not received a pledge card can pick one up at Dauch Alumni Center or print one from www.purdue.edu/unitedway.

The Purdue University Retirees Association has donated 89 percent of its goal, and graduate students have reached 50 percent of their pledge. Several areas have reached or are close to reaching their goal. Each area has a goal amount based on past performance and number of employees.

Agriculture - 76
