Discovery Park seeks nominations for new faculty fellows, scholars program

August 6, 2012

The Discovery Park Faculty Research Fellows and Scholars Initiative, a new program seeking to establish collaborative networks between the park and Purdue's academic units, is seeking nominations. Packets are due Sept. 5.

The initiative seeks to create new opportunities for faculty to advance Purdue research and technology through innovative ideas and novel approaches. The program is open to tenure-track, tenured and clinical faculty members on Purdue's West Lafayette campus.

“We hope to bring new and diverse ideas to Discovery Park and provide an opportunity to enhance the faculty member’s research program and their participation in Discovery Park,” says Alan Rebar, executive director of Discovery Park.

Appointment to the fellows program lasts one calendar year, while appointment to the scholars program lasts two calendar years. Appointments begin Jan. 1, 2013.

Fellows and scholars will be chosen on a competitive basis following nomination by their department or unit head and by the appropriate Discovery Park center director. Approval of the applicable college dean and Discovery Park's executive director is required.

As compensation for their partial release from academic responsibilities, departments or units will receive $25,000 per year for each faculty member chosen as a fellow or scholar. Each fellow and scholar may receive up to $10,000 per year for use in Discovery Park core research facilities during their appointments.

Nominations are due electronically to Wendy Field at wfield@purdue.edu by 5 p.m. on Sept. 5. For more information and nomination instructions, visit www.purdue.edu/discoverypark/main/initiative.php.
