Celebration planned for 40th anniversary of Title IX

The University community is invited to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the adoption of Title IX at an event being held 10-11 a.m. June 22 in Rawls Hall, Room 1086.

Beverly Davenport Sypher, vice provost for academic affairs, will deliver brief remarks, and refreshments will be served.

On June 23, 1972, President Richard Nixon signed Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, 20 U.S.C. �1681 et seq., into law. Title IX is a comprehensive federal law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in any federally funded education program or activity.

The event is sponsored by the Office of the Vice President for Ethics and Compliance, the Diversity Resource Office, Intercollegiate Athletics, the Susan Bulkeley Butler Center for Leadership Excellence, the Women’s Resource Network and the Office of Institutional Equity.
