'Molly Brown' helping John Purdue Room celebrate move

December 6, 2011

The Molly Brown, the signature lunchtime sandwich of the John Purdue Room for years, is back this week for one more nostalgic appearance in Stone Hall. It is part of a special week as the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management prepares to move its food service to Marriott Hall.

The John Purdue Room has other special items, including a Boiler schnitzel, and regular favorites available this week before closing for the semester. Lunch is 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. and dinner is 5:30-7:30 p.m. through Friday (Dec. 9).

The popularity of the Molly Brown is indeed unsinkable, and popular demand has brought it back for this week's lunches. It is named for a student named Molly who developed it and also worked at American Airlines. The sandwich is made with ham, turkey and swiss cheese, which are rolled in white bread, then dipped in a special batter and deep fried to a golden brown. The sandwich also comes with choice of french fries or fruit cup, special mustard sauce, and pickle spear, and this week costs $7.95. With addition of choice of soup and bread, it's $9.95.

For both lunch and dinner, reservations made at 49-46845 or badilley@purdue.edu are strongly encouraged.
