Three business management employees will see their names engraved on the Eleanor O. Kaplan Award for Exceptional Customer Service plaque located in Freehafer Hall.
The 2010 recipients are Karen Barnard, account clerk for the vice president for student affairs; Kathy Poindexter, account assistant for the College of Technology administration; and Kristi Hartwick, director for financial affairs, Executive Offices.
The latest recipients of the annual award learned of the honor March 22 when Lucia Anderson, director of business managers, made the announcement at a presentation ceremony in Stewart Center.
“I always love reading the nominations and being able to use some of the words describing the nominee’s justification for being a recipient,” Anderson said. “This year was no different.”
The Eleanor O. Kaplan Award is sponsored by the Office of the Director of Business Managers and was established through an anonymous gift to recognize an account clerk and an administrative staff member employed for at least three years within the West Lafayette Business Services area for providing outstanding customer service.
Eleanor Kaplan began her Purdue career in 1979 as business administrator in the Education Department. She transferred to the School of Management in 1981 and spent the remainder of her career as a business administrator. She is remembered for her positive and cheerful attitude and for illustrating the importance of customer-valued service.
“Every year as I prepare for this special activity, I reflect on Eleanor Kaplan and the wonderful customer service she provided,” Anderson said. “I think how special it must be for her family and friends to know that we are keeping her memory alive.”
Winners are selected each year by a committee of seven peers. Serving on this year’s committee were Amanda Jackson, Trina Clawson, Wanda Stevens, Kim Van Meter, Susan Gauger, Sandy Kellogg and Cheri Davidson, chair.
In addition to having their names listed on the Eleanor O. Kaplan Award plaque, recipients each receive $100. The plaque is on display in Freehafer Hall in the west entrance adjacent to the mailroom.
