Training sessions to focus on staff hiring, retention

November 3, 2010

The Office of Institutional Equity and Human Resources Employment are offering a series of sessions designed to assist supervisors in developing and refining their staff hiring and employee retention skills.

All session participants will receive the latest edition of the Staff Recruitment and Selection Procedures Manual, which may be found online at www.purdue.edu/ethics/oie/documents/OIEStaffManual_11.2009.pdf.

The earliest session provides a foundation of understanding and skills:

The Essentials of Staff Recruitment and Selection
2-4 p.m. Nov. 10. Room 311, Stewart Center.
For hiring supervisors and search committee members new to the staff hiring process, new to the University, or who would like a refresher on the fundamentals, this session will provide guidance on the search process from beginning to end, including how to enlarge applicant pools, evaluate applicant credentials, conduct a fair and legal interview, what to include in offer letters, and successful documentation of the process.

For hiring supervisors and search committee members who already have basic knowledge of staff hiring practices and procedures at Purdue, the following three sessions, "Conducting Quality Interviews," "A Guide to Reference Checking," and "Diversity in Employment," are offered in one block so that those interested in participating may attend one, two, or all three of the sessions.
