APSAC, CSSAC discuss joint efforts at October meeting

October 22, 2010

Members of the Administrative and Professional Staff and Clerical and Service Staff advisory committees discussed current projects and ideas for new ones during their joint meeting Oct. 12 at Stewart Center.

Among the possible new projects is an award for Purdue employees who make significant contributions to the community outside the University.

As proposed by APSAC member Bob Morman, the award would be given as specific situations arise, not necessarily every year.

Morman said he got the idea when he was asked about recognizing an employee who started collecting food donations in her garage for children exhibiting signs of hunger. That employee's efforts have grown to include the Kiwanis Club, Rotary Club, numerous local churches, the Food Finders Food Bank along with other civic and business organizations. In the last six years, children from every elementary school in the Lafayette School Corp. and five in the Tippecanoe School Corp. have been helped.

Several members of both groups said they like the award idea. Two members from each group volunteered to serve on a joint ad hoc committee to look further in the award.

Both groups also have been asked to name a representative to Purdue's Retirement Plan Committee, CSSAC chair Debbie Luedtke said.

The retirement committee, approved by the Board of Trustees at its July meeting, is to select and monitor investment options offered through Purdue's defined contribution retirement plan and its voluntary retirement savings program.

APSAC chair Nicholas Howell said Donya Lester will be that group's representative to the committee. Luedtke said the CSSAC representative will be Ann Sledd.

In other business, the groups discussed final plans for the employee resource fair they are hosting on Oct. 25.

Organizers in both groups said volunteers are still needed to help with the event.

The fair, to be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the South Ballroom, Purdue Memorial Union, will highlight programs, courses and services available to Purdue employees.

It is open to all Purdue faculty and staff.
