Auction/sale by Engineering captains to aid United Way

October 21, 2010

The College of Engineering United Way team captains are sponsoring a combination silent auction and sale to benefit the United Way on Friday (Oct. 22). In addition, they are collecting items to help a local UW agency.

The event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the atrium of the Materials and Electrical Engineering Building and on the patio. Baked items will be sold on a cash basis, as will some white elephant items such as vintage Cabbage Patch dolls, household items and collectibles. Through a silent auction, the team captains will sell a number of donated items such as basketball tickets, gift baskets, gift certificates, signature jewelry and a fitness club membership. Massages purchased by the minute will be available. And getting a photo taken with Purdue Pete will be possible from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The collection of items will be for Lafayette Transitional Housing, a United Way agency. Items to be collected are nonperishable food and gently used clothing; a list at www.lthc.net/items.htm names the most needed things.

All sale proceeds will go to the United Way of Greater Lafayette. The Purdue United Way Campaign is under way through mid-November.
