Recreational Sports Center offers fitness classes at the office

With Learn to Play Away, Purdue faculty and staff can experience a personalized workout at any on-campus location, not just at the gym.

This program, sponsored by the Recreational Sports Center, offers year-round group fitness classes at the office. Sessions are available on both weekdays and weekends.

"It all depends on our instructors' schedules," says Michelle Whipple, fitness and wellness coordinator at RSC. "I have fulfilled requests as late as 9 p.m. on weekdays and special wedding relaxation yoga classes on Sundays."

Certified fitness instructors lead a 50-minute class chosen by the group. Pilates, power yoga, PiYo, and yoga for relaxation are offered. PiYo uses both Pilates and yoga segments.

Turbo Kick, which combines aspects of kickboxing with simple dance moves, Yoga Al Fresco, an outdoor yoga class, and Zumba, a workout inspired by various Latin dances, are available as well.

Last fall, the Purdue Women's Resource Office held a Learn to Play Away yoga class for its graduate student group participants.

Katie Pope, director of the Women's Resource Office, says, "It was one of our most popular programs, and we plan to offer it again next year. Learn to Play Away is easy to schedule and a nice alternative to the other programs we offer."

All Learn to Play Away classes are limited to 50 participants. However, accommodations can be made for larger groups.

Group classes cost $65 per class. The cost drops to $55 per class if more than one session is requested.
