CSSAC preparing for election, forum, PEAP trips
The next vice chair of the Clerical and Service Staff Advisory Committee will be selected at the group's April 13 meeting.
Two members were nominated at CSSAC's March 9 meeting. Matthew Marks, chair of the group, said nominations for vice chair would be accepted until the April 13 meeting.
The winner will take office in September and succeed the current vice chair, Deborah Luedtke. Luedtke will become chair at that time.
In other business, the group discussed the forum on Sustaining New Synergies it is sponsoring from 9 to 10 a.m. March 30. It will be in Room 206, Stewart Center.
Marks urged members to tell their constituents about the forum, find out what questions they may have and be ready to ask those questions. Clerical and service staff are invited, but the forum is open to all Purdue employees.
At the forum, Al Diaz, executive vice president for business and finance, treasurer, and Ken Sandel, project manager, will discuss and answer questions about proposed changes under the Sustaining New Synergies initiatives.
At CSSAC's March 9 meeting, Diaz and Sandel gave an overview of the Sustaining New Synergies initiatives and answered representatives' questions. Connie Lapinskas, assistant provost for financial affairs and chair of the Campus Information Technology Plan Committee, also gave a presentation.
Also on March 9, the grants subcommittee reported that it had received applications for 81 dependent grants and 14 employee grants.
The grants help recipients attend classes at Purdue. The grant fund is supported by a portion of revenues from vending machines on the West Lafayette campus, contributions, and sales of designated football and basketball tickets.
Alan Farrester of CSSAC's Purdue Employees Activity Program (PEAP) said the subcommittee has made final plans for the shopping bus trip on April 10 to IKEA and Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg, Ill. He said 46 seats have been sold for the trip, and, as of March 11, only one seat is left. The deadline for registration is March 24. Farrester said PEAP also is sponsoring a Chicago Cubs baseball trip on Aug. 21, when the Cubs will play the Atlanta Braves. Cost will probably be $70 per person. More information on the trip will be available later.
PEAP also is planning a day at Indiana Beach this summer, and is considering a trip to a casino later in the year.
