Update: Traffic, parking disruptions

February 8, 2010

Here are notes on some current and upcoming disruptions on the West Lafayette campus.

Weather conditions play a significant role in progress on some projects.

-- The east-west sidewalk north of the Bell Tower was to close today (Feb. 8) as the first of several sites for the removal of abandoned water lines in the steam tunnels that run underneath campus sidewalks. For the next several weeks, areas of campus will be blocked by fence while crews use a small crane to discard the debris into a dump truck or dumpster. -- On Harrison Street, Duke Energy Indiana has begun to remove the cable on the overhead power lines as part of the Harrison line relocation project. Installation of a new underground route was completed Jan. 28. Most utility poles in the area will be removed also. A section of overhead line was removed last week from South Russell Street to Arnold Drive. No further details are available from Duke Energy on the timing of additional removals. For questions or concerns, contact David Musi at dfmusi@purdue.edu or 49-46297.

-- Reminder: Increased traffic and possible short-term standing traffic may take place along Centennial Mall due to the arrival of a crane and concrete trucks. This is in conjunction with the Gatewood Wing project for mechanical engineering. As construction nears completion on the steel framework, pouring of concrete floors will begin. After that, exterior wall framing materials and additional workers will arrive on site.
