Purdue Extension offers training in landscaping, lawn care

February 27, 2012

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Professional landscape and lawn care operators in west-central Indiana can receive the latest professional training at the Preseason Tune-up in Crawfordsville on March 20.

The daylong event, sponsored by Purdue Extension, will include sessions on controlling weeds, the destructive emerald ash borer and landscape insects. There also will be sessions on calibrating ride-on sprayers and spreaders, discussion of the herbicide Imprelis, and safety tips for operating machinery.

The workshop, also open to anyone interested in lawn care and landscaping, will be held at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds, 400 Parke Ave., from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. EST.

"This program will provide a great chance for 'green' industry professionals and others to learn about current issues and lawn and landscape challenges just before the start of their busy spring season," said Ed Sheldon, Extension educator in Montgomery County.

Purdue Extension specialists will provide the training, which qualifies for continuing education for commercial pesticide applicators, horticulturalists and Master Gardeners.

A complete program and registration form is available online at http://www.ag.purdue.edu/counties/montgomery/Pages/LawnandLandscapePreseasonTuneup.aspx

Registration fee of $30 per person includes a catered lunch and all materials distributed during the program.
