Purdue TAP to offer green training online
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - For the first time, Purdue University's Technical Assistance Program is offering part of its Green Enterprise Development Program online.
TAP designed the three-level program to teach a work force about environmental sustainability using hands-on activities, simulations and case studies.
The Green Generalist Online workshop is valuable to people in all positions and all business sectors. It introduces many concepts and issues that are part of sustainability. Through this interactive course, participants will gain a general awareness of the key environmental issues facing companies and ways to redesign their business practices using environmentally friendly techniques.
"Purdue TAP's Green Enterprise Development has given us a significant amount of green and sustainable information to look at and possibly implement here at Rea," said Donna Roberts, safety engineer for Rea Magnet Wire Co. in Lafayette. "Using the tools we learned through the Green Generalist workshop, we formed a green team, identified environmental performance metrics and are now setting goals. We look forward to continuing our work with Purdue TAP as we head down the green path."
Taking the workshop online means participants can complete the courses whenever it's convenient and wherever they have computer access.
"Through the Green Enterprise Development Program, we can help Indiana companies assess and expand their current practices or build an environmentally sustainable workplace from start to finish," said Dave Snow, director of Purdue Manufacturing Extension Partnership, a part of TAP. "By offering the program online, we are making it even easier for companies to train their employees in green skills."
Green Generalist Online has seven sections, seven tests and three interactive simulations. It takes up to four hours to complete. The cost is $195 per person, and registration is available at https://www.distance.purdue.edu/greengeneral
The Green Enterprise Development Program also includes Green Generalist and Green Specialist modules as in-class and on-site training sessions. The Green Specialist series will prepare workers to take the Society of Manufacturing Engineers Green Manufacturing Specialist Certificate exam and to lead project implementation at their workplaces.
