WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Certified crop advisers from Indiana and surrounding states will have the opportunity to earn up to 16 continuing education units on Dec. 15 and 16 during the 2009 Indiana Certified Crop Adviser Conference.

The conference, which runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days at the Indianapolis Marriott East, will offer sessions in each of five topics for certified crop advisers (CCA). Those objectives include soil and water; nutrient, crop and pest management; and professional development.

Continuing certification hours also will be available for certified pesticide applicators attending pest management sessions.

"Certified crop advisers have the opportunity to gain up to 16 continuing education units in a two-day time frame at a very low cost per credit hour," said Tony Vyn, Purdue University agronomist. "Because there are four to five simultaneous presentations each hour, CCAs can choose to earn their credits in the areas where they are most active."

While the conference aims to provide continuing education units for crop advisers, Vyn said the event also would be beneficial to cash crop farmers.

"The sessions will be a top-quality information source for farmers, as well," he said.

Conference speakers include experts both from Purdue and other universities, as well as industry professionals.

"In addition to the wide variety of topics, this conference offers an outstanding range of speakers," Vyn said. "No other CCA conference in the Eastern Corn Belt has as wide an array of speakers and sessions. We always make sure the speakers for the conference are the experts in the topics at hand, regardless of whether they are from Purdue or another institution, or whether they're in academia or industry."

Full registration for CCAs is $195, or $100 for one-day registration. Non-CCA attendees can register for $300 for both days, or $150 for one day. After Dec. 8, registration fees will be an additional $50. Participants can find more information and online registration at http://indianacca.org/Conference_2009/

Additional information also is available by calling 800-387-1283 or 765-494-4783.

The Indianapolis Marriott East is located at 7202 E. 21st St.

The conference is sponsored by Purdue University, the Indiana Certified Crop Adviser Program, and the Indiana Plant Food and Agricultural Chemicals Association.
