College of Education names distinguished alumni

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue University's College of Education has named five distinguished alumni for 2011. They will be honored at a ceremony Thursday (Oct. 6).

The five are:

      * David Fenell, a professor of counselor education at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs. He received a doctorate in counselor education from Purdue in 1979.

      * Jane Foley, a senior vice president at the Milken Family Foundation who oversees selection of exemplary K-12 educators for the Milken Educator Awards. She earned a bachelor's degree in 1973 and a master's in 1977, both from the Purdue College of Liberal Arts, and a doctorate from the College of Education in 1992.

      * Penny Britton Kolloff, who retired in 2006 after teaching elementary and middle school and serving as a faculty member at Eastern Kentucky, Ball State and Illinois State universities. She received a doctorate from Purdue in 1983.

      * Jack Miller, president of Central Connecticut State University. He received a doctorate from Purdue in 1974.

      * Kathryn Scantlebury, director of secondary education for the College of Arts and Sciences and professor of chemistry in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Delaware. She received a doctorate in science education from Purdue. She received a doctorate in science education degree from Purdue in 1990.
