WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind - Officials from several Southeast Asia universities will visit Purdue University on Monday (June 28) for a workshop on government-private sector partnerships and the role of intellectual property as an economic development tool.
The campus event, hosted by Purdue's Discovery Park, is part of a two-week seminar on innovation and intellectual property (IP) protection and enforcement supported by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The visit will include IP officials from Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.
Pankaj Sharma, associate director of operations and international affairs for Discovery Park, said the workshop includes presentations and tours involving the Bindley Bioscience and Birck Nanotechnology centers and the Burton D. Morgan Center for Entrepreneurship in Discovery Park from 10 a.m. to noon.
The delegation will meet Purdue Vice Provost for Engagement Victor L. Lechtenberg and learn about the university's renewable energy efforts during lunch. The delegation also will visit Purdue's Office of Technology Transfer and Commercialization, Purdue Research Park and conclude with an afternoon tour of a wind farm in nearby Benton County.
Sharma, a Fulbright New Century Scholar, is researching university-based economic development in the Midwest and innovation capacity in an emerging economy.
