• Campus activities:
— Purdue University will host the first National Rifle Association's Intercollegiate Rifle Club Championships from April 8-11. The event will include NRA collegiate rifle clubs, varsity rifle teams, ROTC and independent shooters from across the nation. Qualification will be determined through NRA collegiate sectionals. • Faculty and staff honors:
—The American Association for the Advancement of Science elected eight Purdue faculty members as fellows for 2010. Natalia Dudareva, professor of horticulture and landscape architecture; Donna Fekete, professor of biological sciences; Marcy Hamby Towns, associate professor of chemistry; Jonathan Harbor, professor of earth and atmospheric science; Anant K. Ramdas, Lark-Horovitz Distinguished Professor of Physics; Anita Roychoudhury, associate professor of curriculum and instruction; Mary J. Wirth, W. Brooks Fortune Professor of Chemistry; and Jeffrey Vitter, adjunct professor of computer science, will be recognized for their contributions to science and technology at the Fellows Forum on Feb. 20 at the AAAS annual meeting in San Diego.
— Yaman Kaakeh, Pharm.D., BCPS, has been named the recipient of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Research and Education Foundation’s 2009 Pharmacy Practice Research Award. The honor is one of five awarded annually as part of the ASHP Foundation’s Literature Awards Program. The awardees were formally recognized during the 2009 ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting in December in Las Vegas. The Literature Awards Program honors important contributions to the literature of pharmacy practice in hospitals and health systems. Kaakeh is a clinical assistant professor of pharmacy practice. Her winning article, “Enhanced Photoemission Spectroscopy for Verification of High-Risk I.V. Medications,” was co-authored with Hanna Phan, Pharm.D., Brian D. DeSmet, Pharm.D., M.S., Deborah A. Pasko, Pharm.D., Denise K. Glenn, B.S.Pharm., and James G. Stevenson, Pharm.D., FASHP. The article was published in the American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy.
