Intervention to reduce effects of impacts on brains of high school football players

Larry Leverenz can speak about research into the potential health effects on the brains of high school football players suffering repeated head impacts. Leverenz is a clinical professor in the Department of Health and Kinesiology and an expert in athletic training. He is a member of the Purdue Neurotrauma Group, which has been studying brain changes in high school football players since 2009, research spanning six years. He also is studying high school soccer players.

Leverenz also can discuss:

  • Potential intervention strategies to reduce the effects of repeated blows to the head, with new technologies making it possible to determine the most at-risk players.
  • A new Concussion and Neuroimaging Consortium made up of eight institutions to garner support and funding for research into the neurological effects of contact sports.
