Purdue to award degrees in winter commencement

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue University will award degrees during two commencements at its West Lafayette campus on Dec. 18.

Ceremonies for the West Lafayette campus are scheduled for 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. in Elliott Hall of Music. Purdue President France A. Córdova will address graduates at both events.

There are 2,599 students who are candidates for degrees at West Lafayette, including 1,725 undergraduates, 349 doctoral students, 514 master's students, one education specialist and 10 professional degree-seekers. A posthumous bachelor of science and associate of science degree will be awarded to Sean A. Matti, a former student in the College of Technology.

The morning ceremony will be for students in the colleges of Agriculture, Education, Engineering and Liberal Arts. In the afternoon students in the colleges of Health and Human Sciences, Pharmacy, Science, Technology and the schools of Management and Veterinary Medicine will receive degrees.

Elena M. McCord, of Highland, Ind., who will receive a bachelor's degree from the College of Education, will provide the student response during the morning ceremony. Bryan T. Morris of Greenwood, S.C., who is to receive a bachelor's degree from the College of Technology, will give the student response at the afternoon ceremony.

The ceremonies will feature two large video screens above the stage to show close-up images of the graduates as they receive their diplomas. The event will be aired live on Comcast Channel 5 and Boiler TV. It also will be shown live via Webcast at mms://video1.itap.purdue.edu/graduation

Commencement videos will be available for $30 per DVD. Order forms can be obtained at the Loeb Playhouse box office, online at https://www.purdue.edu/registrar/pdf/DVD_Form.pdf, or by calling 765-494-3933. Forms may be submitted both before and after the ceremony within two weeks of the event.
