The top collegiate athlete from each of five regional qualifiers receives a $1,000 scholarship and advances to the collegiate championship to be held during the Oregon State Fair in Salem on Aug. 26-28. The champion will earn a spot in the 2012 professional series.
The Midwest qualifier was held April 7 on Purdue's campus. Representing Purdue was Al Meyer, then a senior forestry student from Greensburg, Ind., and president of the Purdue Forestry Club. He won the underhand chop event and finished tied for second overall.
