January 10, 2011

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Five Purdue Extension specialists will give presentations and lead discussions for farmers and other agricultural professionals at the 2011 Fort Wayne Farm Show.

The show runs Jan. 18-20 at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.

"The Fort Wayne Farm Show is one of the premier indoor farm shows in the U.S.," said Steve Engleking, LaGrange County Purdue Extension educator. "In addition to the trade show, which showcases the latest innovations in technology and equipment, educational seminars will deal with current agricultural issues."

The seminars, co-sponsored by Purdue Extension and the Soil and Water Conservation Districts of Northeast Indiana, will run daily.

During the Jan. 18 lunch program, Purdue agricultural economist Roman Keeney will team with Indiana Farm Bureau's Don Villwock to present "Farm Bill: What's Next?" The discussion will focus on the changes farmers might expect in the 2012 Farm Bill.

Purdue agricultural economist Chris Hurt will present the 2011 Grain and Livestock Market Outlook at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 19.

Other Purdue Extension presentations will include:

* "Future of Bio-Fuels: Fact or Fiction" by Juan Sesmero, agricultural economist, at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 18.

* "Indiana's New CFO Requirements" by Tamilee Nennich, dairy nutrition specialist, at 3 p.m. Jan. 19.

* "Telling the Story of Agriculture through Education" by Danica Kirkpatrick, Purdue Agriculture education events coordinator, at 6 p.m. Jan. 19.

The show also will include seminars by Michigan State Extension specialists and members of several Indiana agricultural service organizations, businesses and government agencies.

Purdue Extension will have a booth at the trade show where participants can talk to educators.

"The Purdue Extension exhibit gives farm show attendees an opportunity to visit with local Extension educators and to ask questions," Engleking said. "Our 2011 exhibit will highlight biomass energy and new insect pests affecting Indiana's crops."

The Allen County War Memorial Coliseum is at 4000 Parnell Ave., Fort Wayne. More information about the show is available online at https://www.tradexpos.com/ftwayne/
