Purdue Musical Organizations to hold open casting call and Kids Choir auditions

September 13, 2010

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue Musical Organizations will conduct an open casting call Sunday (Sept. 19) for two major speaking roles in the 77th Annual Purdue Christmas Show along with auditions for their Kids Choir.

Auditions will be held at 2 p.m. in the basement of the Elliott Hall of Music, Room 15. Boys and girls between the ages of 8-12 with unchanged voices are eligible to audition for the Kids Choir. Children will be taught a song and dance routine in a group setting. Each child will then perform the routine as the audition piece.

In addition to the Kids Choir, PMO is looking for one boy between the ages of 7-10 and one girl between the ages of 10-14 to fill major speaking roles in the show. Those auditioning for the roles will be asked to read dialogue, sing and interact in character. Prior experience is preferred but not necessary.

"The PMO Kids Choir is a big commitment, but it's a great experience for the children," said William Griffel, director of Purdue Musical Organizations. "We need kids who can sing, move and perform with great attitudes and lots of energy."

A parent or guardian must accompany their child to the audition at 2 p.m. Each child auditioning is encouraged to bring a written recommendation letter from a teacher, preferably a music teacher, but the letter is not required.

The Purdue Christmas Show, which is viewed by more than 15,000 people each year, will be presented Dec. 4-5. Tickets can be purchased by downloading the ticket order form on the Purdue Christmas Show web page at https://www.purdue.edu/pmo/christmas.shtml or by visiting any Purdue Box Office location.
