Purdue TAP plans energy forum

July 13, 2010

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue University's Technical Assistance Program will host an industrial energy efficiency forum on Aug. 10 in Indianapolis.

The Save Energy Now Indiana! Forum will provide energy efficiency information and technical assistance to owners, managers and operators of industrial facilities.

The forum will offer information on the U.S. Department of Energy's Industrial Technology Program (ITP) and TAP's Save Energy Now Indiana! initiative. The state energy office will explain programs designed to help Indiana manufacturers remain competitive by improving their use of energy and reducing energy costs.

Featured speakers will be Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman, who oversees the Indiana Office of Energy Development as part of her duties, and Brian Olsen, industrial projects manager for the U.S. Department of Energy.

Olsen will give an overview of ITP software tools, workshops and initiatives that can help companies reduce energy use and expenses and are available for little or no cost. Other DOE experts will demonstrate software that can model and analyze the efficiency of furnaces, pumps, motors and fans.

Indiana utility companies will discuss existing and future demand-side management programs.

"The goal of DOE's Save Energy Now program is to reduce the energy intensity of industrial facilities by at least 25 percent over the next 10 years," said Ethan Rogers, TAP's manager of energy efficiency and sustainability. "We are  pleased to be part of this program. This forum is our first step. We invite anyone interested in improving industrial energy efficiency to attend."

The forum, co-sponsored by DOE, Indiana trade associations and program partners, will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Indianapolis Airport.

Cost is $45 per person before July 19 and $55 after. Lunch is included. Continuing Education Units are available on request for attending.
