In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday on January 21, 2008, the Office of the
Vice President for Human Relations is sponsoring Affirming the Dream XIII: Walk the Talk. The Affirming the Dream tradition began 13 years ago when the first Day of Service was organized, and this year we continue the tradition of providing opportunities to engage in Dr. King’s vision.
We invite all faculty, staff, and students to reflect on Dr. King’s vision and take part in “the things that matter” by participating in one or all of this year’s events:
- Donate a non-food item for the Food Finders Food Bank — even the smallest donation makes a difference.
- Leave a Boilers Care-and-Share donation bag filled with non-food items in front of your residence hall door.
- Volunteer for Day of Service at community agencies that work with animals, children, senior citizens, healthcare, and the homeless. We’ll provide lunch to show you our appreciation.
- Attend the University Celebration to hear from Morris Dees, an award-winning civil rights trial lawyer and founder of the Southern Poverty Law Center, as well as the Purdue Black Voices of Inspiration.
- Participate in Speak Up!, an interactive workshop on how to respond to everyday bigotry presented by the Diversity Resource Office.
