Jaylon Tucker, Senior, Mechanical Engineering

Jaylon Tucker is a senior at Purdue studying Mechanical Engineering. He attended a few of Purdue’s programs as a high school student and was introduced to the opportunities that Purdue had to offer. He said, “I came to realize that Purdue is not just a good school, but an inviting community with a plethora of mentors to guide me through being an undergrad. I knew that I would not be alone in my journey.” And during his time at Purdue, Jaylon has gotten involved beyond the classroom, to be surrounded by not only mentors, but peers for the journey as well. On campus, he has gotten involved with National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), in which, he is the head of the Chapter’s involvement with Boys and Girls Club, Engineers Without Borders, and is a member of the dashboard design team for Purdue Electric Racing.

In the summer of 2015, Jaylon interned with General Electric. He helped to lead a “Value Stream” team of about 20 others that ensure customer satisfaction and commitments are met. During his time with GE, he developed and implemented a subassembly tracking system in “Value Stream” that increased the productivity by 17%. 

Jaylon’s graduation plan is to do a 5-year program at Purdue, finishing with a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. He would like to work at Accenture after that, and go back to get his MBA with his sights set on Harvard. His overall career goal involves,“Starting my own corporation, Bryce Industries, and become globally recognized for solving environmental problems. My goal is to become financially successful so that I can create a foundation that mentors youth to realize their hidden potential.”
