3rd Annual LGBTQ Symposium

The LGBTQ Symposium is designed to increase awareness of LGBTQ academic studies, current research at Purdue University, as well as highlighting opportunities through the LGBT Studies minor.

Theme: #Liberation

Social media activism has emerged in recent years as a new and frequently debated strategy of struggling for social justice. Some question the efficacy of social media activism, referring to it as “slacktivism.” It is clear, however, that social media activism is becoming firmly rooted in the vast repertoire of social change efforts as LGBTQ activists employ it more and more to shine light on oppression in real time. As the impact of social media activism continues to expand, our diverse and intersectional communities must explore and understand how it can be utilized to achieve #Liberation.

Call for Proposals

We are seeking poster proposals exploring the complexities of gender and sexuality from a variety of scholars in all fields. Particular attention will be given to research that connects to this year’s theme #Liberation—the impact social media, communication, and technology has on creating change.

LGBTQ Symposium will take place on October 22, 2015 with the poster session set-up beginning at 3:15pm.
