Sponsored Student Class Projects and Capstone Projects

If you desire to conduct a class project or capstone project that is sponsored by an outside sponsor, please complete the following steps in order to ensure the most efficient processing of your request.

  1. Fill out the student class projects intake form.  All sponsors for a particular course can be listed on the same intake form.  A separate form is required for additional courses.  Multiple sections within a course may be referenced on the same form as long as the course name and number for those sections are the same.  
  2. If your sponsors require nondisclosure agreements, send the sponsor's form nondisclosure agreement to legalcounsel@purdue.edu for review.  Please reference the course name and number and course instructor in the email.
  3. You will receive draft forms for your review with the relevant sponsor information filled in.  The drafts you will receive include: (A) a Sponsor Acknowledgement Form, and (B) an Instructor Acknowledgement form.  NOTE: If you desire, the language on Page 1 of the Sponsor Acknowledgement Form can be changed to fit the particular circumstances of your course and your relationship with your sponsor, but you must provide us with the language you would like to include.  The remainder of the form includes questionnaire information and legal notices that cannot be changed.
  4. We will revise Page 1 of the Sponsor Acknowledgement Form per your instructions and send both the Sponsor Acknowledgement Form and the Instructor Acknowledgement Form to you and your sponsor for electronic completion via DocuSign.  You and the sponsor will receive an email through DocuSign that will navigate you through the completion of the forms.
  5. DocuSign will notify our office when the forms have been completed and our office will review to determine if additional steps are necessary due to export control requirements or other information included on the form.  Our office will stamp the approval block when the project has been approved and will notify you of approval

General Notes:

  • We recommend allowing at least one month for processing.  We hope to get all projects processed in a shorter amount of time, but projects tend to come in large quantities seasonally at the beginning of each semester and summer, and therefore we ask that you allow plenty of time for processing as we must balance these against other responsibilities.
  • If your sponsors require nondisclosure agreements, to speed up processing, you may submit those forms further in advance for pre-negotiation.
  • If you believe your project has special circumstances or a sponsor has special requests, please notify our office by email at legalcounsel@purdue.edu.
