Methods of Giving to the Varsity P Club

Not only does the Club feature many different membership levels and benefits, but it also offers an array of giving opportunities:

Annual Gifts

Annual gifts may be made in the form of cash, check, credit card, stock, and possibly equipment or supplies. Appreciated stock is particularly beneficial. Members receive a renewal notice in the mail each year.

Matching Gifts

Matching gifts allow you to double or triple your contribution to the Varsity P Club. More than 1,000 companies offer matching gift programs. Please call the Varsity P Club office, check with your employer, or visit the University Development Office's matching gift site to find out whether your company matches gifts.

Planned Gifts

The Varsity P Club also encourages members to consider deferred gifts, such as will provisions and trusts, which provide lasting support for Boilermaker Athletics. Visit the University Development Office Planned Giving web site for more information on planned giving.

Life Memberships

You can become a Varsity P Club lifetime member at the Captain ($14,000), MVP ($25,000), All-American ($60,000), Olympian ($175,000), and Champion ($350,000) levels. For the Captain, MVP, and All-American levels, contributions are to be made within 12 months. Life Olympian and Life Champion memberships may be paid over a three-year period and five-year period, respectively. All memberships, including life memberships, are transferable only to the surviving spouse. For more information on the Life Champion level, see the next section, "Endowed Scholarships."

Endowed Scholarships

Members at the Life Champion level leave a lasting impression on Purdue Athletics by permanently endowing an athletic scholarship. Purdue invests the $350,000 contribution and uses a portion of the annual interest to fund the scholarship. Members may contribute the $350,000 over a four-year period and may designate the sport that their endowment will support.

Gift Designation

Because gifts to the Varsity P Club fund athletic scholarships for all 18 varsity sports, we strongly encourage unrestricted gifts. If, however, you wish your gift to go to a particular athletic program or purpose, indicate your wishes on your membership application and we will gladly comply.

Tax Information

All gifts to the Varsity P Club are considered gifts to Purdue and are credited at full value in the donor's giving record to the University.

While gifts are tax deductible, the Varsity P Club will calculate the fair-market value of the benefits accompanying each level of giving. Each year, you will receive a description of your benefits and their value. Your tax deduction should be reduced by the value of these benefits.

For those who lease premium seating or suites in Ross-Ade Stadium, 80 percent of annual payments (less the value received) is also tax deductible. Details on this deduction are sent to premium seat holders.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, a contribution associated with the privilege of purchasing season tickets is deductible as a charitable contribution at 80 percent of the adjusted gift. The first $200 of your annual contribution places you in the Varsity P Club and gives you priority over the general public. Members also may choose to decline all benefits offered.

A special note for Indiana taxpayers: You are eligible for a 50 percent income tax credit for gifts up to $400 on joint returns or $200 on individual returns.

Please see your tax advisor for more information about the tax implications of your donation.
