Department of Athletics

The cost of providing academic and athletic opportunities has increased dramatically over the past few years. Purdue University has four revenue sports and fourteen Olympic sports and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has remained a self-supporting auxiliary unit of the university. It is one of a handful of institutions in the nation that receives NO state appropriations, institutional assistance or student fees.

With a completely self-supporting and increasingly successful program the financial demands continue to rise, therefore fund-raising efforts must continue to match the growth of the expanding Boilermaker program. The John Purdue Club provides Purdue student-athletes with a foundation for success in the classroom, in the competition venues and in life after graduation. Truly living up to its motto, The Team Behind The Teams provides the necessary funds to underwrite the roughly $7.4 million scholarship and academic support costs for our 500+ Boilermaker student-athletes annually.

The mission of the John Purdue Club, as an integral part of the Purdue Athletics Department, is to continue to maintain a financially self-supporting environment which will provide the resources for coaches and staff to develop championship programs and our student-athletes to develop both academically and athletically. Without the understanding and philanthropy of the Boilermaker faithful, our mission would be incredibly difficult to accomplish.

While funding the scholarship and academic costs for Purdue’s student-athletes is always the first priority of the John Purdue Club, we also strive to provide our student-athletes with the best possible facilities and equipment. The construction of the Schwartz Tennis Complex, the Boilermaker Aquatics Center, and the renovation of Ross-Ade Stadium are just a few completed examples of the standard that Purdue Athletics sets for itself. These great accomplishments are dependent on the generosity of our donors to make such standards a reality.

Currently, we are in the most aggressive capital campaign in our history with the Mackey Arena Renovation project. However, there are other special projects and capital campaigns that are also in progress. We welcome you to explore our current campaigns and projects to find out what giving opportunities may be available to you.
