Continuing Lecturer in Biology (001996-2008)

Department of Biological Science, Purdue University.  Duration of this position is two years with potential of continuation based on additional funding.

Responsibilities:  The successful candidate will teach lecture and laboratory courses in introductory biology for non-majors.

Assistant Professor of Atmospheric Science (001882-2007)

In support of the Purdue University initiative in Climate Change Research and the Purdue Climate Change Research Center (PCCRC), the College of Science and the College of Agriculture invite applicants for a tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Aerosols and Climate

Requirements:    We seek candidates who are using experimental, observational (ground, air and space based, in-situ or remotely sensed), or numerical modeling methods applied to the study of (i) aerosol microphysical processes, (ii) the production, transport and fate of anthropogenic or biogenic aerosols, (iii) the impact of aerosols on the hydrolic cycle, including cloud formation and precipitation, (iv) the impact of aerosols on the ecological systems such as croplands and forests.

Research Assistant Professor (001858-2007)

A postdoctoral position at the level of Assistant Research Professor of Computer Science is available in the Department of Computer Science at Purdue University.  The position is for one year and can be extended for one or more additional years by mutual consent.

Requirements:  Perform research on existing projects, interact with colleagues and agency scientists, and prepare technical reports and research funding proposals.

Qualifications:  Ph.D. in Computer Science with demonstrated experience and skills in algorithms design and implementation.  Familiarity with external memory algorithms, data streams, machine learning, and indexing is a definite plus.

Spatial Statistician (Posting #001758-2007)

As part of Purdue University’s enhancement of excellence in spatial and environmental research, the Department of Statistics and the College of Agriculture invite applicants for an open-rank, tenure-track or tenured position in the area of Spatial Statistics.  The position involves a joint appointment in the Department of Statistics (STAT) in the College of Science, and a department in the College of Agriculture such as Forestry and Natural Resources, Agricultural Economics, Agricultural and Biological Engineering, or Agronomy.  Applicants are expected to develop new methodologies in the field of spatial statistics as well as collaborate with colleagues in application areas such as climate change, ecology, environmental and natural resources, land use, risk assessment, and agriculture.

Assistant Professor of Physics (Posting #001698-2006)

The Department of Physics at Purdue University seeks outstanding candidates for Assistant Professor in theoretical biological physics to further strengthen this new departmental growth area.  We seek applicants with interests in forefront fields of research and in newly emerging areas, such as theoretical modeling of single biomolecule imaging, and other areas that would complement existing biological physics research within the Department and across the College of Science.  Candidates of exceptional merit will also be considered for Associate and Full Professor levels.

Associate Professor of Physics (Posting #001663-2006)

The Department of Physics at Purdue University (http://www.physics.purdue.edu) seeks applications for a Tenure-Track Faculty position in Experimental High Energy Nuclear Physics.  The Purdue Physics Department has had a long standing interest in exploring the phase diagram of nuclear matter.  Currently the Experimental High Energy Nuclear Physics group consists of three Physics Faculty, two Senior Research Scientists, one Research Associate, and Graduate Research Students.  The department has recently strengthened the nuclear physics effort with the appointment of a RIKEN-BNL fellow in Theoretical Nuclear Physics.  The experimental group has played a major role in the construction and operation of the Solenoidal Tracker (STAR) at the Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider (RHIC) at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL).  The group has played a leading role in the physics of bulk properties, jet quenching, multi-particle correlations, and long range forward-backward multiplicity correlations in relativistic heavy-ion collisions using the STAR detector.  The group has joined the ALICE-USA collaboration at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and is interested in extending the program to the higher energy proton-proton and heavy-icon collisions using the ALICE detector.  The successful candidate is expected to develop vigorous research programs strengthening the existing efforts and opening new frontiers.

The College of Science, Purdue University, is seeking outstanding individuals in the areas of Science and Mathematics Education research, to join a major campus-wide initiative that offers the potential to add 15 or more faculty to our existing programs in science and engineering education in the College of Science, the College of Education, the College of Engineering, and the College of Agriculture over a period of five years.

As part of this initiative, the College of Science seeks candidates for several new positions of open professorial rank in Science Education.  The focus for this academic year is education research in Biology, Computer Science, Mathematics, or Physics, although outstanding applicants in other disciplinary areas will be considered, especially if clear research synergies exist with existing programs and faculty.  Internationally recognized education research groups already exist in Purdue’s Colleges of Science and Education, and the Center for Research and Engagement in Science and Mathematics Education (CRESME) has just been founded to provide a common intellectual home for science and mathematics education researchers at Purdue. 

Requirements:  Successful candidates are expected to be leading participants in further development of the university’s science education research focus.  Candidates are expected to develop vigorous research programs, supervise graduate students, and to teach undergraduate and graduate courses.

Qualifications:  Candidates should have a Ph.D. in science, mathematics, science/mathematics education, or in a closely related field, and a record of outstanding achievement in mathematics or science education.

Faculty position in Ecohydrology

Requirements:  Develop a nationally and internationally recognized research and teaching program focused on the interrelationships between hydrological, environmental and climate system changes and ecosystem responses to these changes.  Research also might include one or more of the following topics: spatial analysis of water resources; the sustainability of current water resource management with a focus on the changing demands of agriculture, industry and society, and its impact on ecosystems; and hydrological transport of chemicals and micro organisms and associated ecological response.

Qualifications:  Ph.D. in science, agriculture, or engineering with strong research emphasis related to the position required.
