Department Head of Sociology (002026-2008)

The Department of Sociology seeks a Department Head to begin July 1, 2009.  The appointment is for an initial period of five years and is renewable.

Responsibilities:  Areas of interest are open, but should complement existing faculty interests.  We expect the Head to further develop the strengths of a dynamic department through effective management, leadership, and a shared vision of the Department’s future.

Qualifications:  Include a distinguished record of research and publication, suitable for appointment as a full professor with tenure, and evidence of leadership ability.  Preference will be given to candidates with faculty experience in a PhD-granting department.

Continuing Lecturer in Spanish (002004-2008)

The Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at Purdue University invites applications for two continuing lecturer positions in Spanish beginning August 18, 2008. 

Responsibilities:  The successful candidate will be expected to teach Spanish language and culture courses and assist with undergraduate programs.  Some course coordination may be required.

Qualifications:  Applicants must have an M.A. or Ph.D. degree, at least one year of teaching experience and native-like fluency in Spanish and English.

Assistant Professor (Posting #001851-2007)

The African-American Studies and Research Center (AASCR) and the Department of Sociology and Anthropology invite applications for a joint-appointed tenure track Assistant Professor position, beginning August 2008 (50% in AASCR and 50% in either the Department of Sociology or the Department of Anthropology as the tenure home).

Requirements:  We seek a candidate with expertise in race relations, and with evidence of excellence in both research and teaching.  Topical areas of particular interest include African American families, Black masculinity, Black churches in America, African Americans and the civil rights movement, and the culture of the African Diaspora.

Qualifications:  The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Sociology or Anthropology and have expertise in some aspect of race relations and social inequalities, and a research focus on African Americans or the African Diaspora.

Assistant Professor of Sociology (Posting #001850-2007)

The Department of Sociology and Anthropology invites applications for a tenure track position of Assistant Professor of Sociology to begin in August 2008.

Requirements:  He/she will be expected to maintain an active program at sociology research and publication, teach undergrad and graduate courses, advise graduate students, and fulfill faculty service responsibilities.  We are seeking candidates doing interesting and important research within the broad area of social inequality, including topics related to race, class, gender, age, disability, sexuality, and other aspects of stratification.

Qualifications:  The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Sociology by the time of appointment and will demonstrate a strong research agenda.

William C. Byham Chair in Industrial/Organizational Psychology

The Department of Psychological Sciences at Purdue University invites applications for the William C. Byham Chair in Industrial/Organizational Psychology.  The holder of the Byham Chair will join in an active and well-known I/O Psychology program that attracts top graduate students from across the world.  The program is an important part of a strong and diverse psychology department and also has significant collaborations with a renowned OB/HRM program in Purdue’s Krannert School of Management.  The successful candidate will have a record of research, external funding, teaching and service commensurate with the rank of Full Professor.  Preference will be given to candidates with research interests in one or more of the following areas: selection, performance appraisal, training, organizational development or human performance.

Requirements:  1) Establish and maintain a productive research program; 2) Direct graduate-student research; 3) Teach undergraduate and graduate courses.

Qualifications:  1) Ph.D. degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology; 2) Be pursuing an exemplary program of research; 3) Demonstrate effectiveness in teaching and the potential for teaching excellence.
