Landscape Architecture Professor (002003-2008)

The Landscape Architecture Program in the Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture at Purdue University, West Lafayette campus, seeks to fill a ten-month, tenure track faculty position available at the rank of assistant, associate, or full professor.  The Landscape Architecture Program at Purdue University is a five-year professionally accredited undergraduate program leading to a B.S.L.A. degree.

Responsibilities:  The successful candidate will be expected to develop a program of innovative and engaging classroom and studio teaching in fundamental aspects of landscape architecture.  The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate course in landscape architecture.  Productive involvement in a program of academic scholarship and/or creative endeavor in contemporary issues and emerging practice is also expected.  Participation in the application and scholarship of community engagement and service is desired.  The individual also will be expected to be instrumental in the development of an emerging graduate program.  Intra- and interdisciplinary collaborations are strongly encouraged and supported at Purdue University.

Qualifications:  A terminal graduate degree in the candidate’s primary field of expertise is required.  At least one degree held by the candidate must be in landscape architecture.  A Ph.D. in landscape architecture or a related field is desirable as a notable record of professional and/or academic accomplishment in landscape architecture or a related field.

Field Crops Entomology - Assistant Professor (001990-2008)

The Department of Entomology at Purdue University invites outstanding candidates in the field of insect pest management and ecology to apply for a 12-month, tenure-track, extension/applied research faculty position.

Responsibilities:  The successful candidate will be expected to provide leadership in the development and implementation of innovative, Extension integrated pest management programs for economically important arthropods affecting field crops.  The individual is expected to be an active member of an interdisciplinary team with specialists from throughout the College of Agriculture.  The person will be expected to establish and maintain an innovative, relevant and externally funded research program.  Participation in the department’s teaching program is also expected.

Plant Biochemical and Molecular Genetics Asst/Assoc Professor (001982-2008)

The Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant or Associate level.

Responsibilities:  The successful candidate will establish a vigorous, externally-funded and internationally recognized, state-of-the-art research program utilizing functional genomics and quantitative genetic approaches to understand fundamental principles underlying the biology of plants.  Preference will be given to candidates who use interdisciplinary approaches, including molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry, and natural variation and population genetics applied within an evolutionary and environmental context.

Qualifications:  Ph.D. in genetics, biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology or related areas, with evidence of high-quality research required.  Post-doctoral experiences in an appropriate discipline and teaching experience desired.

Assistant Professor of Plant Systems Biology (001964-2007)

The Department of Botany and Plant Pathology at Purdue University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the assistant professor level.  This is an academic year position with a primary research appointment and a secondary teaching appointment.

Responsibilities:  We seek outstanding candidates applying a systems approach to understanding complex problems in plant biology.  All areas of plant systems biology will be considered, including the modeling of genetic networks affecting plant phenotype, how genotype and environment impact phenotype, effects of ecosystem changes on plant diversity and sustainability, the complexity of cellular and physiological processes, and plant interactions with other organisms.  Candidates who use mathematical and computational approaches to address biological questions will be of particular interest.

Qualifications:  Applicants should have a Ph.D, at least two years of postdoctoral experience or its equivalent, a strong publication record, the potential to develop a vigorous extramurally funded research program, and a commitment to research and teaching excellence. Assistant Professor of Food Science (001900-2007)

Purdue University Department of Food Science seeks Assistant Professor, 9-month appointment

Requirements:   The successful candidate will provide leadership and scholarship in food science teaching and research.  Emphasis will be on the creation of innovative approaches to food science education, outcome-based assessment, and development of a nationally recognized, high-impact education program.

Qualifications:  Earned Ph.D. in food science (ideally food chemistry) or related field.  Candidates must have a commitment to teaching (primary) and research (secondary) in the area of food science.  Food industry experience is desirable.  Applicant must demonstrate outstanding oral and written communication skills, teaching experience and proven expertise, excellent interpersonal skills, an interest to work on collaborative and multidisciplinary projects, and an aptitude for grant writing.  Previous international experience is desired, and involvement in study abroad programs for students is expected.

Soybean Extension Specialist (001870-2007)

Requirements:  A strong interest in production agriculture and an understanding of challenges and opportunities facing farmers, crop input suppliers, and crop utilization industries are essential.  The candidate must be an effective written and verbal communicator with the ability to deliver timely, valid and appropriate crop-specific information via modern technologies to diverse audiences.  Interest and/or experience in international dimensions of soybean production are desirable.

Assistant Professor, Ecological Impacts of Climate Change (Posting #001841-2007)

Assistant Professor, Food and Agricultural Business Economics (Posting #001833-2007)

Assistant Professor, Forest Ecology (Posting #001832-2007)

The Department of Forestry and Natural Resources at Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN, is seeking applicants for the position of Assistant Professor of Forest ecology.  This is a tenure-track, academic year appointment with teaching and research responsibilities.

Requirements: The successful candidate initially will teach an undergraduate course in forest ecosystems, contribute on a rotational basis in teaching other courses (e.g., Dendrology, Introduction to Environmental Conservation, Forest Measurements), participate in a summer field practicum, and contribute a graduate-level course every other year consistent with curricular objectives of the graduate faculty.

Agricultural & Biological Engineering (Posting #001722-2006)

The Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering is currently seeking applications in the area of biological engineering for a full-time tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level.  This position is part of a comprehensive growth plan for biological engineering at Purdue University.  Review of applications will begin January 16, 2007.  The position will remain open until filled.

Assistant or Associate Professor (Posting #001636-2006)

Tenure-track faculty position in dairy nutrition and nutrient management.  The appointment will include extension (majority) and research.

Requirements:  The successful applicant will develop and lead an educational and technology transfer program in dairy nutrition and nutrient management and participate in the Purdue Dairy Team’s efforts to provide technical support and problem-solving assistance to Indiana’s dairy industry.  The individual is expected to work closely with dairy producers, consulting nutritionists, veterinarians, extension educators, and environmental regulators.  The successful applicant will become an integral part of Purdue University’s Whole-Farm Nutrient Management Team.

The Department of Forestry and Natural Resources at Purdue University is seeking applicants for an Assistant Professor of Hardwood Silviculture, specializing in productivity and sustainable management of hardwood-dominated forests.  This is a tenure-track, academic-year appointment with research, extension, and teaching responsibilities.  Salary will be commensurate with experience and training.

Requirements:  The successful candidate will develop a vigorous, externally funded research program emphasizing the application of quantitative methods and/or ecophysiological tools to study the effects of silviculture manipulations on the productivity and/or ecological development of temperate deciduous forest ecosystems.  Possible focal areas include, but are not limited to: responses of natural or plantation forest stands to varying harvesting regimes, overstory and understory stand manipulations, thinning effects on crop tree development, and regeneration recruitment.  The successful candidate will be a principal investigator within the Hardwood Tree Improvement and Regeneration Center (http://www.htirc.org), a collaborative research unit focusing on genetic quality and management of hardwood forests.  Abundant opportunities exist for collaborative research that aligns strategically with departmental strengths in tree physiology, forest regeneration, genetics, entomology, soils, remote sensing, human dimensions, biometrics, and wildlife.  The successful candidate will also contribute to the Sustaining Hardwood Ecosystems research program, and interdisciplinary project including faculty from various disciplines in the College of Agriculture in cooperation with state and federal agencies to examine responses of forest ecosystems to silviculture treatments.  The successful candidate will engage in extension through technology transfer to private landowners and forestry professionals.  The selected candidate will also teach an undergraduate course in silviculture, a graduate course in their area of expertise, and contribute toward a forestry field practicum.

Qualifications:   A Ph. D. in silviculture, forest ecology, tree physiology, or related field.  Expertise in hardwood forests, along with teaching and/or outreach experience is desired.

Faculty Position in Air Quality Modeling (Posting #001587-2006)

Assistant or Associate Professor of Agricultural and Biological Engineering.

Requirements:  Develop and lead a nationally recognized research, teaching, and outreach program in agricultural air quality modeling.  Specialization in air quality should emphasize source emission modeling that supports and interfaces with efforts to model atmospheric dispersion, pollutant fate and transport, and regional air quality.  This position provides substantial opportunities for collaborative research and interdisciplinary interaction.  It is expected that the individual will develop a strong externally funded program and will team with interdisciplinary researchers in Science, Agriculture, and Engineering.

Qualifications:  Applicants must have a Ph.D. in engineering or related field with strong emphasis on environment, proven commitment to scholarship, and excellent communication skills.  Experience with geographical information systems is helpful.
