Purdue University invites applications and nominations for Dean, College of Education. The college has approximately 90 faculty, 60 staff, 410 graduate students, and 929 undergraduates on the West Lafayette campus. Another 800 undergraduates from other schools/colleges are in its teacher education programs at West Lafayette. Formed in 1989, the College of Education is a flourishing academic community that is making major contributions to educational excellence today and in the decades ahead. Requirements: As the College’s chief academic officer, the Dean is expected to support human, cultural, and intellectual diversity within an inclusive environment that encourages research and program development advancing the field of education; facilitate collaboration among programs within the College and University, including the regional campuses; and coordinate the College’s efforts with school districts, other universities and communities, and state, federal, and international agencies.
Qualifications: Major qualifications for the position include academic accomplishments as a scholar and teacher that meet the standards for a tenured appointment at the rank of Professor within one of the College’s departments; a successful record of administrative leadership in higher education; skills in securing and allocating resources to provide quality undergraduate and graduate instruction, research, public service and outreach activities; experience in strategic planning; the ability to work with other deans and administrators in developing goals and programs; and demonstrated expertise in addressing the needs of a diverse faculty, staff, and student body. The successful candidate will also possess energy, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to communicate effectively. The position is available July 1, 2008.
