Changes ahead for overtime policy
Purdue will modify its overtime policy, effective Jan. 12, 2015. The changes will bring us in line with most public and private sector employers, including the state of Indiana and Purdue’s peer universities.
Nonexempt staff (those paid biweekly) will be paid overtime for all hours worked in excess of 40 hours in any single workweek. What’s changing: Paid and unpaid leave days (such as vacation, jury duty, sick leave, bereavement leave, etc.), with the exception of University-recognized holidays, will no longer be counted to determine eligibility for overtime pay.
Recognizing university holidays as time worked is beyond what most universities provide; however, Purdue believes it's important to include them.
This change is the second step in a process that began in 2010, when Purdue moved from a policy that paid overtime for every hour worked beyond eight in a workday.
