Truven gives you big head start in estimating your costs on 2014 medical plans

You want the best 2014 medical plan for yourself and your family, and estimating your total cost under each of next year’s medical options should play an important part in making your decision. But how do you get started with your estimates?

Let Truven Informed Enrollment help.

  • Truven starts with your Purdue medical and prescription drug claims having dates of service between April 2012 and March 2013. Truven then shows how you’d fare under each of the 2014 medical plan options, if you had similar expenses next year.
  • Estimates take into account premiums, deductibles, coinsurance and any contributions that Purdue will make to your health savings account (HSA).
  • The online Truven tool lets you adjust the information that Truven uses to estimate your total costs. Did you have a baby during the sample period, but don’t expect a new child in 2014? Truven lets you lower the health care cost estimate accordingly for next year. Anticipate a surgery next year? Just add the surgery, and then let Truven estimate the surgery’s cost and use it for your 2014 plan comparison.
  • The online tool also lets you add or delete family members for properly estimating your medical premium, if your covered family members in 2014 will be different from those shown in Truven.

To use Truven, go to the Purdue University Employee Portal, click the EBenefits link and then log on using your Purdue career account username and password. A link to Truven Informed Enrollment is on the right side of the EBenefits home page under the “Benefit Tools” section. Or simply start the 2014 enrollment process, and EBenefits will automatically take you to the tool.

Truven only estimates health care costs; you still need to complete the enrollment process to choose a 2014 medical plan, opt out of medical coverage or add and delete family members from your coverage.

Truven stores Purdue’s benefits data and has been a trusted third-party for years. Under its signed HIPAA agreement with Purdue, Truven conforms to all privacy and confidentiality standards.
