Center for Healthy Living
extends hours

The Center for Healthy Living on Purdue University’s West Lafayette campus began offering extended hours for medical visits on Feb. 15, 2016.

"We have been gathering feedback and working on behalf of our faculty and staff to continue to provide the highest quality, most convenient services possible at our center," says Eva Nodine, director of benefits in Human Resources. "Through the Healthy Boiler initiative, we have received additional feedback that extending the hours of service for appointments and providing more availability for same-day appointments are what employees need, and we are excited to make that happen this year."

The hours at the Center are now 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Friday hours are now 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and lab hours remain the same, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. In recognition of the completion of three years on the West Lafayette campus, it’s a good time to remind employees of the other valuable resources available at the Center, including high-quality health care at a great value.

In addition to cost savings at the Tier 1 lab, clients of the center also see savings on office visits. Preventive care is available to all Purdue medical plan participants and their covered family members age 8 weeks and older.

Participants on the Purdue Health Plan or J-1 Visa Plan receive preventive care at no cost and pay a $10 co-pay for non-preventive care visits, such as sick visits. Participants covered on the Purdue Health Plan Plus HSA 1 or Purdue Health Plan Plus HSA 2 receive preventive care at no cost and pay a flat fee of $40 for non-preventive visits. Once deductibles are met on the HSA 1 or HSA 2 plans, visit costs are reduced to $8 and $10 respectively. Benefits-eligible employees who have opted out of a Purdue medical plan are eligible for preventive and non-preventive care for $40 per service.

Clients have access to the expert services of the Center’s health care professionals as part of the holistic, team approach that is at the heart of the center. These services include:

  • Physicians;
  • Nurse practitioners;
  • RN-health coaches;
  • Registered dietitian who is a certified diabetes counselor;
  • Pharmacist who is specially trained to help patients manage their medications;
  • Employee assistance counselors;
  • Phlebotomist;
  • Medical assistants; and
  • An on-site Mid America Clinical Laboratories Tier 1 lab
In addition to primary care services, treatment of common illnesses and the previously mentioned Tier 1 laboratory service, the Center for Healthy Living also offers many no-cost wellness programs such as employee assistance counseling, health coaching, medication therapy management, tobacco cessation and more. No-cost workshops on a variety of topics are offered through the year as well. Center for Healthy Living workshops are free for benefits-eligible faculty and staff and spouses/same-sex domestic

partners covered on a Purdue medical plan. Workshops are designed to educate attendees and improve their overall health.
