Frequently Asked Questions - Staff Evaluations

Who should I contact with staff evaluation policy questions?
Please forward your staff evaluation policy questions to lod@purdue.edu. A member of the Leadership and Organizational Development team will respond within two business days.

Do you use ITaP’s Gold Answers database for resolving common troubleshooting issues?
Yes, we have created a number of useful Gold Answer documents that address compatible browsers, blank screens, and other commonly experienced troubleshooting issues.

What are Purdue's Staff Evaluation Policy requirements?

  • All staff must receive an annual evaluation.
  • Supervisors and staff will work collaboratively to establish goals and objectives.
  • All staff must have a development plan to support the annual goals and objectives.
  • Staff evaluations must be maintained as outlined in the staff evaluation policy.
  • Supervisors and their staff must review the staff evaluation policy and receive the appropriate training to implement annual evaluations.

My department is interested in utilizing the new Employee Self Service staff evaluation tool. How do we get started?
Watch the staff evaluation orientation video. Send an email to lod@purdue.edu requesting a staff evaluation planning meeting. Be sure to include the name and contact information of the lead person from your department. HR will contact you within two business days to confirm a meeting date and schedule a live demo.

How long will it take for my department to gain access to the Employee Self Service staff evaluation tool?
Your department will be granted access to the system within 10 business days after meeting with HR for a planning meeting.

Can my department utilize the standalone system we created and/or purchased? What is the process for gaining HR endorsement?
Yes. If a department elects to implement a standalone staff evaluation tool, the HR department must endorse the tool prior to implementation with one exception: Departments may utilize their standalone evaluation tool to conduct 2012 staff evaluations without HR endorsement. To gain HR endorsement, please send an email to lod@purdue.edu requesting endorsement of your tool. Be sure to include the name and contact information and copies of the staff evaluation tool. A member of HR will contact you within two business days to schedule the appropriate meetings.

What steps should I take if goals were not established and I did not receive an annual staff evaluation?
First, contact your supervisor. If after speaking to your supervisor, appropriate plans have not been established, send an email to lod@purdue.edu explaining the situation. A member of the LOD team will contact you within two business days and assist you in securing an annual evaluation.

I have five performance goals listed on my 2013 performance evaluation.  What options will my supervisor have when assigning performance ratings to each goal?

There are five rating options in the online system.  Performance ratings and definitions appear are listed in the table below:

Outstanding

All aspects of the goal were fully accomplished and the staff member’s contributions surpassed all established criteria with distinction

Exceeds Expectations

All aspects of the goal were fully accomplished and the staff member’s contributions surpassed established criteria.

Meets Expectations

All aspects of the goal were fully accomplished.

Needs Improvement

Significant aspects of the goal were accomplished; however improvements are needed to fully satisfy performance standards.

Does Not Meet Expectations

Significant aspects of the goal were not accomplished, negatively impacting stakeholders and/or goal attainment.  Specific improvements are expected.
