Who can receive assistance from the Office of Faculty Recruitment and Retention?
The accompanying partner of a recruited tenure track faculty member is eligible for dual career services. These services are offered to partners with career needs either during recruitment or when the appointment is made. The Office can also offer dual career services to partners of retention cases that have first been referred to the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs.

How long will you assist partners with their job search?
There is no specific time limit.
Will I get preferential status and guaranteed employment?
We will assist partners in their job search efforts, but the fact that you are a partner of a current or prospective faculty member does not guarantee employment at the University. Whether or not you will be able to secure employment will depend on how much time, effort and engagement you are willing to put into your job search. Purdue seeks to hire the best and brightest candidates for positions.
Can you help me find employment outside of Purdue University?
We are building a network of business contacts in the community. Through us, you can obtain resource information about the local business community and job openings. The Office may be able to provide introductions to contacts of interest for informational/interviewing purposes.
Can you help me find an academic position at Purdue University?
Faculty positions are facilitated through the department of the primary faculty member in collaboration with the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs office.
Can you help me find an academic position at a nearby college or university?
We will be happy to forward your resume to various colleges and universities in the surrounding community.
How does a prospective faculty member request services?
The Provost’s Office, deans, or department heads can contact the Office to make a referral and provide basic information about the status of the search and/or an offer of employment. Basic information about the partner and how to contact them is provided at this time. An initial consultation is conducted with the partner to discuss his or her employment interests, skills and abilities.
The services offered through the Office of Faculty Recruitment and Retention will be customized to fit individual needs. Assistance will be given in identifying appropriate employment opportunities and networking contacts. An individual’s own job search efforts and follow-up are crucial to the success of this program.
Can a Waiver of Posting be requested?
In order to achieve equal access and equal employment opportunity, it is generally necessary to post all positions. However, there are a few concretely defined circumstances under which a waiver of posting may be permitted. As part of the recruitment in another unit on campus, the candidate of a qualified dual-career partner is one of the instances.
In such instances, appropriate documentation must be submitted to Human Resources Compensation for approval of a waiver of posting. Required documentation includes the following:
Position Description and Staff Position Posting forms,
A memo from the unit justifying the candidate’s selection and stating the reasoning as to why the position should not be posted and a search conducted, and
A copy of the candidate’s resume
How long does it take to get hired at the University?
Many factors may determine the length of time to secure a position within the University. This timeframe depends on each individual utilizing our program services.
