The Organizational Effectiveness communications team partners with Human Resources departments to provide quality editorial, design, photography and web services, as well as strategic communication planning as needed for projects within the Treasurer’s area.
Creating everything from the HR Connect newsletter to your benefits enrollment guide – and quite a bit in between – we work behind the scenes to keep Purdue employees informed about all the relevant happenings in Human Resources. You might not know our names, but you’ve definitely seen our work.
Manager, HR Communications and Change Management
I am a Purdue alum with a bachelor of arts in interpersonal communication (and a minor in political science). Learning how to (successfully) communicate with others, despite difference in viewpoints or backgrounds, is one of the most important skills I walked away with.
When my husband and I decided to relocate our family from Michigan to Indiana to live closer to family, I knew I wanted to work at Purdue. I joined the newly formed training team under Business Services Computing in 2009 as a training specialist. One of the great things about working at Purdue is the opportunity to learn new skillsets and grow in your career. My positions as business process manager and senior instructional designer/training specialist positions both provided ample learning opportunities.
I am very excited to lead the Organizational Effectiveness communications team and partner with Kevin Vedder in change management initiatives within OE. Bringing training, development, communications and change management together under one department will enhance the services we can offer others.
HR Communication Specialist
In 2000, I became a Purdue University alumna with a bachelor of arts in professional writing, and in 2004, I joined the University as a communication specialist. My writing background is widely varied – I’ve written about life insurance, engineering and classified advertising, translated a Spanish-English column for a weekly newspaper and I even had a short stint as an editorial assistant on the opinions page of the Journal and Courier. I’ve lived in the Midwest in my whole life and really enjoy what the Lafayette-West Lafayette area has to offer.
My role on the Organizational Effectiveness communications team allows me to work with a variety of customers, which guarantees that each day is different. Whether I’m formulating a communication plan or writing copy for a brochure, I know that the end result of my work is going to help provide Purdue employees with vital information. And when you can say that, it makes every day a great day at work.
I'm a Purdue graduate with 20 years of work history at Purdue, the majority of which was spent in Biological Sciences. I started there as an assistant illustrator and became director of scientific illustration, a position I held for 15 years before joining Human Resources in 2012. I earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in industrial design, and I’ve been able to bring my skills as an illustrator, graphic artist and professional photographer to my role as a graphic designer. These past three years in Human Resources have been my best for professional growth at Purdue, and I’m excited for the new challenges that will come with being part of Organizational Effectiveness.
Senior HR Communication Specialist
In 1997 I graduated from the University of Indianapolis with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and a minor in communication. My degree and experience have provided me with many opportunities to use my communication skills – specifically journalism and marketing – in a variety of different roles and companies.
The eclectic past experience I have includes work as an editor, writer, communication specialist, executive director and marketing specialist for newspapers, non-profit organizations, an advertising firm, corporate healthcare and Purdue University.
My first role at Purdue was in 2004 in the Purdue Marketing Communications department – now known as Marketing & Media. I left the University in 2006 and followed my passion for non-profit work and animals to lead the local humane society as its executive director. After 7.5 years in that role, I transitioned back into the corporate business setting as a marketing specialist with Indiana University Health Arnett, and a year later came full circle back to Purdue.
My current position continues to expand to allow me the opportunity to work with a variety of different people and areas within Human Resources and Organizational Effectiveness. Every day is a learning opportunity and a chance to help share important communication with employees campus-wide.
