Build candidate pool through advertising
The Purdue Careers website is the first and the primary way to get the word out about your open position. Our job board is a popular single source of candidates, with hits from all over the globe and increased engagement from followers of the Purdue Careers social media sources (Facebook, Twitter and our blog).
Additionally, we have thousands of job seekers who are subscribed to our “Job Alert” system (which electronically notifies job seekers of open positions matching their interests). Finally, it is a little known fact that posting on the Purdue Careers job board also gives you exposure on two other very popular job boards. These two major job boards are Indeed.com and IndianaCareerConnect.com. These job boards collect postings directly from the Purdue Careers site and list them on their sites.
With all of this great exposure, why would you have the need to advertise further? The Talent Acquisition team has given you a great base to build from in attracting candidates to your open position. However, in some instances there is a need to go further to expand your reach. This need depends on your individual position and factors such as departmental diversity initiatives, current job market for the profession and the uniqueness of your opportunity. Your Talent Acquisition Specialist is a great source to help you understand each of these factors.
Advertising beyond the Purdue Careers website can help you appeal to niche groups that are associated with your profession such as local, state or national professional organizations. Beyond that, there is general professional interest categories such as working in the sector of higher education or affinity groups associated with increasing the diversity of your unit. Even broader, you can look to more general job boards that may target a specific geographical region to attract candidates.
Lastly – and most importantly – remember: if you are considering advertising, your Talent Acquisition Team members are happy to provide guidance and assistance in placing and writing advertisements (however, costs associated with the advertisement are at the responsibility of the hiring department).
