• Background check policy now effective for all faculty, staff positions

  The new University-wide Background Check Policy went into effect on May 1, 2011. All faculty and staff positions posted on or after that date are subject to the policy; student positions are not included.

• Equal access, equal opportunity briefings available for supervisors

  "Purdue University is committed to maintaining an inclusive community that recognizes and values the inherent worth and dignity of every person; fosters tolerance, sensitivity, understanding and mutual respect among its members; and encourages each individual to strive to reach his or her own potential."

• The importance of return to work slips

  When returning to work from a medical leave, an employee must provide the supervisor with a slip from the health care provider stating that the employee is released to return to work. This release may also note restrictions the employee has when returning to work. If an employee does not have a return-to-work slip, the employee cannot be allowed to work until he or she has one. Letting an employee work without a return-to-work slip puts both the employee and the University at risk.

  Sara has worked for you in an administrative position for 20 years. Her primary duties have been to design brochures and pamphlets and to maintain the department's website. Over the past several years, Sara has taken additional training and education on design, but the department is moving toward a "paperless" presence and these skills are no longer needed.
