HR to increase efficiency through new structure

With an eye toward better meeting the University's core business needs, Human Resources embraced a new organizational structure in January.

"The new structure will be more transparent and will provide greater HR accountability for processes and services," says Luis Lewin, vice president for Human Resources.

Among the changes:

• Appointment and payroll related operations formerly processed by the HR Service Center have been transferred to the Payroll Department to better align and consolidate these functions. (See the related article.)
• The reconfigured HR Service Center will provide customer service and handle transactions focused on benefits and leaves with additional services to be added in the future. Although the change is new and much work remains to be done, supervisors and employees should experience greater efficiency in processes and services as time goes on.

The HR website provides a number of resources to help supervisors connect with the correct person or area within the new HR structure. Related links include:

Restructuring efforts began in March 2010 when Lewin initiated a series of conversations with the senior leadership of the University, the HR Advisory Committee, his direct reports and each employee in the West Lafayette campus's central HR organization.
