Luis E. Lewin

Luis Lewin joined Purdue in March 2010 as the University's first vice president for human resources. As vice president, Lewin has human resource responsibilities for the more than 18,000 employees throughout Purdue's campuses. He oversees benefits, employment, compensation, leadership and organizational development, employee relations, and the human resources service center.

Lewin came to Purdue from Ohio University in Athens, where he had served as chief officer of the human resources department since 2008. Lewin earned his bachelor's degree from Wilmington College in psychology secondary education and Spanish and his master's in modern languages from Ohio University. Lewin worked for the Chicago-based Tribune Co., which owns daily newspapers and TV stations across the country, from 1987 through 2008. He became the company's senior vice president of corporate human resources in 2000. At the Tribune Co., Lewin oversaw a $30 million budget and successfully led the human resources function into an innovative contributor to the company. He also has served as publisher of Exito!, a Chicago Spanish-language weekly newspaper.

Lewin served 10 years on the board of directors for the Chicago Children's Memorial Hospital and is a former member of the board of directors for the Chicago Children's Choir. Lewin was chair of the Human Resources Inter-University Council, a group of 14 universities within the state of Ohio.
