Statements of Commitment

| Diversity is an overarching initiative in Purdue University's strategic plan. Business Services supports this initiative through our employment efforts to increase diversity among staff and through the identification of minority and women-owned businesses that can provide goods and services to the University through a competitive bidding process. As an employer, we must work toward reflecting the diversity of our state and the country in recruiting, retaining, and developing a diverse workforce. We provide business services across many schools, departments, and units with a focus on stewardship, improving key processes, developing staff, and leveraging technology. Creativity in providing solutions requires bringing different perspectives and approaches to the team. These differences can be synergistic in providing the best solutions to the customers we serve.

| As a part of Business Services, we are all working to better recruit for a diverse workforce. To me, diversity means variety. In my area, I would apply this to the individuals that I hire. Having staff with different experiences brings a different discussion to the table. Whether it is different genders or different ethnic backgrounds, diversity helps you resolve issues from many different viewpoints.

| People are our most important asset. As we fill positions in Physical Facilities, we attempt to draw from a diverse pool of candidates. We recognize that as an educational institution, we must lead by example in hiring a diverse workforce. We value collaborative efforts and seek to gain knowledge from different perspectives so that we can make informed decisions.

| Our collective aspirations will be to achieve national success - both athletically and academically - and by doing so engage and inspire all constituencies to support the broader University pursuit of preeminence. This will be accomplished in an environment that recognizes the value of diversity and adheres to the highest standards of integrity, work ethic, and teamwork. We have placed a continued emphasis on ensuring the organization sees diversity as a source of competitive advantage. We support that emphasis by searching for qualified candidates who can enhance the diversity of our organization.
