Voting

Policy

See Business Office Memorandum No. 90, Time off for Voting, dated October 30, 1964.

Procedure

Staff members of the University are urged to exercise their voting privileges at all national, state and local elections. Staff members will, upon request, be given time off from their regular work schedule, without pay, up to a total period of four (4) hours between the opening and closing of the polls.

The supervisor and the staff member may agree on any period up to four (4) hours which will be most convenient.

Examples: Polls open 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

  1. Regular work schedule: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
    Available time before work after polls open: 2 hours (6:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.)
    Maximum time off work without pay: 2 hours (8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.)
  2. Regular work schedule: 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
    Available time after work before polls close: 1 1/2 hours (4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.)
    Maximum time off work without pay: 2.5 hours (2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.)
  3. Regular work schedule: 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
    Available time after work before polls close: 2 hours (4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.)
    Maximum time off work without pay: 2 hours (2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.)
