Benefits Termination Dates
All employee benefits for regular faculty and staff end the last day of employment at Purdue University (the termination date).
Specific for academic-year (AY) appointments that terminate between May and the end of summer:
- If the employee ends employment with Purdue prior to the beginning of the following fall semester, benefits will terminate the last day worked. If the employee has overpaid for benefits, Purdue University will process a refund. COBRA is available to continue coverage beyond the last day worked.
- If the employee will continue employment for the fall semester, benefits will continue to the beginning of the fall semester. However, if the employee does not work during the summer and does not come back to work in the fall semester of the new academic year, the last day of employment will be recorded as the last day worked, and benefits will end that day. All claims processed for medical service occurring after the last day worked will be retroactively denied.
- If the employee ends employment with Purdue at the end of the academic year, but has the possibility of being rehired the next academic year, benefits will terminate the last day of the academic year. COBRA is available to continue coverage through the summer. Regular benefits will be reinstated effective with the first day of the academic fall appointment, if the employee receives a benefits-eligible appointment in the fall.
