FACULTY

The faulty mentoring program provides a faculty member to each beginning student in HORIZONS. The faculty mentors are faculty volunteers who are willing to spend a minimum of one hour, three times per semester with their assigned student. Assignments between mentors and students are based on common academic interests. the student is required to complete an assignment for each meeting based on a set of questions given to them by HORIZONS. HORIZONS encourages more contact than required between student and mentor if possible. Many mentors invite their students to lunch or even their homes for dinner. In many instances contact is maintained throughout the student's college career.

PEER

Peer Mentors have been coined as the "Ambassadors for HORIZONS". They are called on to work with guests that may need a role model or direction. Peer Mentors take EDPS 301A and EDPS 301B to examine, practice, and develop leadership abilities, communication skills, counseling techniques, as well as work on their personal growth. The course is emotionally and mentally challenging, but when the Peer Mentors emerge they are prepared to lead the GS 199 First Year Experience Psycho-Educational Lab to the incoming freshman class.
