Transylvania Study Tour
Spring Break 2006
The Honors College was pleased to announce a study tour to Transylvania over spring break 2006. Fourteen undergraduate students along with Catharine Patrone, Assistant Director, Honors College; Dr. John Kirby, Professor of Classics; and Dr. Jim Nairne, Director CLA Honors, traveled to Romania, March 10-18, 2006.

Students are climbing the stairs at Poienari.
En route to Castle Poienari, the “real” Dracula castle in Romania! To reach the castle ruins, students had to climb 1460 steps!

Professors John Kirby and James Nairne at Poienari near Curtea de Arges, Romania. How many more steps to the top?

Vlad Tepes grew up in this house, Casa Vlad-Dracul in Sighisoara, Romania! Vlad took his first tender steps here.
Students (and Catharine!) standing at the ruins of Vlad Tepes' Princely Court in Bucharest.

Transylvanian study tour group is visiting the Princely Court at Targoviste, Romania. Vlad Tepes used to walk these grounds!

Honors College students listen intently as Ioana, the Romanian Tour Guide, describes the Princely Court at Targoviste.
