Campus Conversation:
What can we accomplish in the next 10 years of breast cancer research?
In 2009, the OSC Cancer Prevention & Control Program received a $1.5 million dollar R25 grant from the National Institute of Health to launch a cancer prevention training program at Purdue University. The goal was to inspire the next generation of cancer prevention researchers by creating a unique interdisciplinary training program for both undergraduate and graduate students. The first cohort (10 undergraduates and 5 graduates) were selected in the spring of 2009 (the next group will be selected spring 2010). The students will complete summer research projects and participate in special courses and seminars over the next year and a half.
In conjunction with the new training program, the OSC Cancer Prevention & Control Program has decided to initiate a series of campus conversations focused on specific cancer prevention issues. The first topic will be, “What can we accomplish in the next 10 years of breast cancer research?” The community will participate in this conversation by hosting lectures, organizing events, and carrying out innovative classroom activities. Those interested in participating should contact Professor Dorothy Teegarden (dteegard@purdue.edu) or Professor Jakob Jensen (jdjensen@purdue.edu).
