Fall 2014: May - November
The Sponsored Internship and Study Abroad in China program combines study abroad, professional training and cultural experience in a 6-month program (mid-May through November) at one of several five-star luxury hotels located in China.
In the past, interns have been placed at these properties:
- Crowne Plaza Harbour City (Shanghai)
- InterContinental Hotel, Nanjing
- Jinling Hotel, Nanjing
- Shangri-La Hotel, Dalian
- Shangri-La Hotel, Guangzhou
- Shangri-La Hotel, Qingdao
- Shangri-La Hotel, Suzhou
- Shangri-La's Far Eastern Plaza Hotel, Tainan (Taiwan)
Participants earn 12 credit hours, including four credits of independent studies, two credits of internship and six credits of foreign language (Chinese). The program fee for 2014 is $8,004. The rate is subject to change each academic year based on current Purdue university tuition and program fees.
HHS students who meet the University's general study abroad requirements are eligible to apply.
Students are encouraged to submit a formal application at the beginning of the fall semester. On average, 12 internships are available each year. Offers are usually made within six weeks of receiving the application.
The program is financially supported by corporate sponsorships that provide funds for international airfare, room and board, stipends and other benefits. The total value of corporate support is $32,400 per student sponsored.
"I learned more during my six months in China than I will probably learn in any semester on campus. I met some great people and saw things some people will never get to see. The cultural experience was something I know I couldn't have gotten in just a short vacation going somewhere, and I was challenged to grow personally."
